Build A Team

There has never been a greater need to motivate, and excite the minds of young high school students in the direction of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Today many companies and organizations exists that have bridged gaps with local schools to help ensure the future presence of a qualified work force. Still, few programs have been developed on the national level; FIRST Robotics is one such program that has successfully produced a large scale, made-for-television engineering competition that shows youth that no other career compares to one in science and engineering.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) conducts regional and national design competitions that demonstrate that engineering and science can be as interesting, captivating, and entertaining as a sporting event. The competition involves the coming together of great minds from industry to university students pairing with young inquisitive thinkers from high schools across Toronto grades K-12 in an intense six-week real-time build cycle to create, construct and control a remotely operated robot fit for a sports-based playoff; whose objective changes each year.

In this national competition known as FIRST, each team starts off with the same standard kit of parts and uses its creativity to design and build a vehicle capable of performing a demanding task better than its opponents. The doers of the teams are made up of high school students supported by industrial engineers, and university students willing to share knowledge and experience in this hands-on project to build the better robot.

BrainTech Robotics looks to improve mathematics and science education for grades K-12, BrainTech Robotics supports the mission of FIRST in promoting technical literacy. The FIRST competition is an opportunity for BrainTech Robotics members and their company sponsors to improve the technical literacy of our society by doing something in our own communities.
