BrainTech Robotics (BTR) STEM Learning Centre is running an exciting & challenging 6 week summer workshop for young girls and boys ages 10 – 17 to develop STEM Skills building and programming modern tech. and flying drones while having FUN!!

STEMCity Drones and Robotics Camp is for young budding engineers from grades 5 - 11.

During the camp we unveil the secrets of modern industrial tech. and meet drones and robots which make our lives easier.  Kids become familiar with really cool and innovative technical, learn to conceive real-world solutions and experience the building and programming of drones and robots that resolves these challenges.

Together we will build functioning machines such as: cranes, scissor lifts, and drones.  Each construction will then be precisely programmed to simulate real-world functions.

Each team will be provided with:

  • Computer Workstation
  • Lego Development kit*
  • Drone Flying Kit*

How We Work

Recognizing the need to enhance the learning experience of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), we integrate learning programs that engage and immerse the students in VEX IQ, EV3 Mindstrom and Inmoov – Arduino robot building projects that encourage active team building and friendly competition.

Our objectives are:

  • Provide introduction, workshops, and classes highlighting electronic technologies, computer programming and robotics
  • Collaborate with university students, professionals and parents to strengthen presentation skills, team work, project planning, proposal / technical writing and interviewing skills
  • Provide a safe environment that nurtures growth through team work, good coaching and motivational mentoring

Our Mission

The mission of BrainTech Robotics STEM Learning Program is to develop a strong connection and deep resolve within young women ages 7 to 17 for Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) through the programming, building and controlling of Robots and Drones.
“If there’s room in your heart for this stuff, we’ll fill it!” At BrainTech Robotics STEM Learning Centre, our mission is simple and based on the following basics:

1. People (especially young minded) are inquisitive and hungry for knowledge and experiences
We believe that every learner is unique and the key to learning is engagement. We listen, watch, adapt and apply means and ways that connect for young people to “Get It”. We encourage our students to actively participate in the learning & discovery process by asking questions and facing challenges.

2. Every mind is a unique learner

There are many different ways one learns as there are many ways to teach. All approaches stem from the students response to various teaching styles. Our Coaches & Mentors approach their task of guiding both individual and teams students; as interactive and immersive gaming experiences where the challenge is always the angle to which the students strive to over come.

3. Academic learning is not the only approach

The sessions allow students to develop important skills contributing to a more enriched learning experience; life-skills in time-management, organization, responsibility, integrity, respect, perseverance and confidence.

4. Effective learning requires a collaboration amongst the collective

Parents play an important role in the child’s growth and success in the program. They are included as advisors to provide input to best practices; we encourage parents to join in our professional development and team lead sessions. Our highly knowledgeable and skilled staff provide up to date status on every child as well as the progress of projects and success / fails in the program. As a take away we hope parents are able to extend the effective techniques and experience introduce in the learning centre labs with their children at home.

Team Building

At a competitive level, BrainTech Robotics sessions are setup as teams from the start. A manageable size team consists of 4-8 members. All teams will work as a cohesive unit to understand the scope of the challenge, robotic materials, programming language and assembly constraints at their disposal. Teams will work with an assigned coach and or mentor in the scheduled sessions to train, develop and produce the resulting robots that will compete in the FLC/FLL or regional competitions.


All team members will be assigned roles & responsibilities to aid in the effectiveness of the team.

Teamwork Challenge

Robotics is the perfect instructional approach to developing ones innovative sense. Through teamwork and the program participants develop a willingness to experiment, take calculated risks, ad tolerate failure while persevering to success.

Critical thinking, problem solving, communication, collaboration, and creativity seed innovation and new discoveries. These are the essential skills today’s youth need to face challenges for tomorrow. These are 21st. Century skills that need to be increased by today’s students in order to increase their marketability, employ-ability and readiness for college and university.

Summer Interns and Coop

Summer Interns or Co-op Students – Multiple Positions

BrainTech Robotics seeks outstanding students for summer internships or co-op positions. This is an extremely challenging role as the future minds of younger generations will take your lead and direction seriously. Here you will be required to think on your feet, adapt to any and all situations and be the leader that children, peers, and adults will admire and respect. We view our internship and co-op placement as an excellent opportunities to learn about future potential full-time hires while also contributing to students’ education and their understanding of work practices in an engineering setting. Many of our interns return annually and take on ever more challenging tasks.

Summer college interns as well as mature, driven high school students aged 17 and older are accepted. In all cases we expect to see excellent grades, strong work ethic and an unyielding desire to achieve a post secondary degree education in science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics. We pay well and will push you beyond your comfort zone. All applicants must be registered as a full-time student in a STEM based post secondary program with a Canadian College or University.

To be accepted as a summer intern or co-op student, you will have to show us some unique accomplishment beyond just grades; demonstrate your ‘mad skills’. Tell us the story of your life’s passion.

Most of our intern slots are typically filled by March, but feel free to apply at any time in the year; we constantly review records. Co-op applications are considered for longer work periods.

Mentors and Coaches

 

BrainTech Robotics mentors and coaches are the key ingredients in the success of the teams we build. Your contribution to the success of BrainTech Robotics programs and ultimately to the success of BrainTech Robotics immeasurable. The time, responsibility and expertise of a Mentor or Coach will vary but the one constant is that your involvement will leave a lasting impression that will result in an amazing, learning experience that would help youths grow and succeed. Our Mentors & Coaches are professionals from various fields that involve programming, engineering, planning logistics, project management, math & science, etc. They have been sought out for their commitment and willingness to assist in the development of young minds interested in the growing the field of robotics.

Mentors (Corporate professionals) provide the guidance and structure that helps our students accomplish tasks and overcome challenges in the program. They are the pilots to the type of winning submissions created by students that enter into competition at FIRST & SciTech.

Coaches (teachers, engineers & university/college intern students) use their skills to lead by example and direct high school students actively involved in the design of the robots.

Build A Team

There has never been a greater need to motivate, and excite the minds of young high school students in the direction of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Today many companies and organizations exists that have bridged gaps with local schools to help ensure the future presence of a qualified work force. Still, few programs have been developed on the national level; FIRST Robotics is one such program that has successfully produced a large scale, made-for-television engineering competition that shows youth that no other career compares to one in science and engineering.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) conducts regional and national design competitions that demonstrate that engineering and science can be as interesting, captivating, and entertaining as a sporting event. The competition involves the coming together of great minds from industry to university students pairing with young inquisitive thinkers from high schools across Toronto grades K-12 in an intense six-week real-time build cycle to create, construct and control a remotely operated robot fit for a sports-based playoff; whose objective changes each year.

In this national competition known as FIRST, each team starts off with the same standard kit of parts and uses its creativity to design and build a vehicle capable of performing a demanding task better than its opponents. The doers of the teams are made up of high school students supported by industrial engineers, and university students willing to share knowledge and experience in this hands-on project to build the better robot.

BrainTech Robotics looks to improve mathematics and science education for grades K-12, BrainTech Robotics supports the mission of FIRST in promoting technical literacy. The FIRST competition is an opportunity for BrainTech Robotics members and their company sponsors to improve the technical literacy of our society by doing something in our own communities.

Inmoov – Arduino Robot Workshop

Along with an interest in robotics, a major skill set needed for this course is the ability to work in teams. This robotics class will use the Inmoov Robot assembly and Arduino programming hobby kits customized for beginner to intermediate learners ages 7-17 (Min Age: Must turn 7 by 12-31-15). With the guidance of the Carnegie Mellon based Curriculum, the program will deliver lab based, project driven sessions building the appendages of the Inmoov Humanoid Robot.

This robotics program is ideal for students who enjoy problem-solving and want to develop interpersonal skills through working in a collaborative team setting. If you like mechanics, engineering, ever wondered about what makes things ‘Tick’ or simply have a curiosity of how things work, then this is the place for you!
