STEMCity Drones and Robotics Workshops is for young budding engineers from grades 5 - 11.

We unveil the secrets of modern industrial tech. and meet drones and robots which make our lives easier.  Kids become familiar with really cool and innovative technology, learn to conceive real-world solutions and experience the building and programming of drones and robots that resolve these challenges.

Together we will build functioning machines such as cranes, scissor lifts, and drones.  Each construction will then be precisely programmed to simulate real-world functions.

Each team will be provided with:

  • Computer Workstation
  • Lego Edu-Development kit*

How We Work

Recognizing the need to enhance the learning experience of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), we integrate learning programs that engage and immerse the students in VEX IQ, EV3 Mindstorm and Inmoov – Arduino robot building projects that encourage active team building and friendly competition.

Our objectives are:

  • Provide introduction, workshops, and classes highlighting electronic technologies, computer programming, and robotics
  • Collaborate with university students, professionals and parents to strengthen presentation skills, teamwork, project planning, proposal / technical writing and interviewing skills
  • Provide a safe environment that nurtures growth through teamwork, good coaching and motivational mentoring

Our Mission

The mission of BrainTech Robotics STEM Learning Program is to develop a strong connection and deep resolve within young women ages 7 to 17 for Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) through the programming, building and controlling of robots and drones. 

“If there’s room in your heart for this stuff, we’ll fill it!” At BrainTech Robotics STEM Learning Centre, our mission is simple and based on the following basics:

1. Young people are inquisitive and hungry for knowledge and experiences

We believe that every learner is unique and the key to learning is engagement. We listen, watch, adapt and apply techniques that allow young people to “Get It”. We encourage our students to actively participate in the learning & discovery process by asking questions and facing real challenges.

2. Every mind is unique

There are many different approaches to teaching and learning. All approaches stem from the student's response to various teaching styles. Our coaches & mentors approach their task of guiding both individuals and teams of students in interactive and immersive gaming experiences where the challenge is to find a style of learning that suits each of our student's unique needs.

3. Academic learning is not the only approach

The sessions allow students to develop important skills contributing to a more enriched learning experience. Students learn valuable life skills such as time management, organization, responsibility, integrity, respect, perseverance, and confidence.

4. Effective learning comes from collaboration

Parents play an important role in the child’s growth and success in our programs. They are included as advisors to provide input for the most effective practices. We encourage parents to join in our professional development and team-lead sessions. Our highly knowledgeable and skilled staff provide up to date status on every child as they progress in the program. As a take away we hope parents are able to extend the techniques and experiences introduced in our learning centre with their children at home.

Team Building

At a competitive level, BrainTech Robotics sessions are setup as teams from the start. A manageable size team consists of 4-8 members. All teams will work as a cohesive unit to understand the scope of the challenge, robotic materials, programming language and assembly constraints at their disposal. Teams will work with an assigned coach and or mentor in the scheduled sessions to train, develop and produce the resulting robots that will compete in the FLC/FLL or regional competitions.


All team members will be assigned roles & responsibilities to aid in the effectiveness of the team.

All Girls STEMTech2019 Symposium

We place an emphasis on building soft skills that enable youth to effectively exchange ideas, opinions and collaborate to achieve common goals. 

 

March 30, 2019, Patrick Monize; Managing Director and host Ms Erin Liu; community Influencer, Social Media Connector, Vlogger/Blogger and Teacher, will launch The All-Girl STEMTech2019 Symposium.

 

The goal of the symposium is to help motivate, empower and inform young girls to become excited about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

We place an emphasis on immersive, interactive environments, long-term mentorship and real-world applications while building up soft skills that enable youth to effectively exchange ideas, opinions and collaborate to achieve common goals.

We believe the benefits of early continuous engagement in an effective STEM ecosystem will ensure a prosperous future for children.

Summer Interns and Coop

Summer Interns or Co-op Students – Multiple Positions

BrainTech Robotics seeks outstanding students for summer internships or co-op positions. This is an extremely challenging role as the future minds of younger generations will take your lead and direction seriously. Here you will be required to think on your feet, adapt to any and all situations and be the leader that children, peers, and adults will admire and respect. We view our internship and co-op placement as an excellent opportunity to learn about future potential full-time hires while also contributing to students’ education and their understanding of work practices in an engineering setting. Many of our interns return annually and take on ever more challenging tasks.

Summer college interns as well as mature, driven high school students aged 17 and older are accepted. In all cases, we expect to see excellent grades, strong work ethic and an unyielding desire to achieve a post-secondary degree education in science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics. We pay well and will push you beyond your comfort zone. All applicants must be registered as a full-time student in a STEM-based post-secondary program with a Canadian College or University.

To be accepted as a summer intern or co-op student, you will have to show us some unique accomplishment beyond just grades; demonstrate your ‘mad skills’. Tell us the story of your life’s passion.

Most of our intern slots are typically filled by March, but feel free to apply at any time in the year; we constantly review records. Co-op applications are considered for longer work periods.

Mentors and Coaches

BrainTech Robotics mentors and coaches are the key ingredients in the success of the teams we build. Your contribution to the success of BrainTech Robotics programs and ultimately to the success of BrainTech Robotics immeasurable. The time, responsibility and expertise of a Mentor or Coach will vary but the one constant is that your involvement will leave a lasting impression that will result in an amazing, learning experience that would help youths grow and succeed. Our Mentors & Coaches are professionals from various fields that involve programming, engineering, planning logistics, project management, math & science, etc. They have been sought out for their commitment and willingness to assist in the development of young minds interested in the growing the field of robotics.

Mentors (Corporate professionals) provide the guidance and structure that helps our students accomplish tasks and overcome challenges in the program. They are the pilots to the type of winning submissions created by students that enter into competition at FIRST & SciTech.

Coaches (teachers, engineers & university/college intern students) use their skills to lead by example and direct high school students actively involved in the design of the robots.

When kids learn science from a young age, we get an educated public with the capacity for critical thinking.

BrainTech Robotics STEM LC after-school and weekend workshop opportunities carry on the good work of in-class teachings in a more immersive and interactive way.

Youth development leaders and champions share a goal, to empower more young women to take an active role in their own claim and representation in STEM. Critical thinkers and leadership roles in STEM need to be representative of our population.

This means that half of our problem solvers and leaders in the field should be women.

Program Goals

A Goal Without A Plan Is Just A Wish!

BrainTech Robotics STEM Learning Centre makes it real for all its participants. We strive to empower young minds to see the value and experience the gratification in STEM-based activities while developing both their hard and soft skills.

Young minds that choose to participate in the program develop a value for hard work, innovation, and creativity. They learn the importance of organizing, project planning and testing work in a collaborative environment, sharing ideas and respect the rights and dignity of others as well as themselves. Not to mention the mad skills in CAD design and programming and assembly of complex designs they will acquire.

Life Skills – Learning About Science & Technology to Solve Real-World Issues

On average more than 90% of the student participants in such programs learn more about how science and technology can be used to solve real-world problems. What they learn here is through a 100% interactive experience; designing, assembling, programming, problem-solving, collaborating, competing, winning.

It has been reported that these types of programs produce eighty percent (80%) or more demonstrated interest with a goal-oriented focus in doing well at school in math and science; a deeper drive that translates to more engineering, science and tech post-secondary registrations by females.

A great number of the participants (+90% approx.) of similar programs, report having acquired greater life learning skills through programming, teamwork, planning, and problem-solving, time management, collaboration, and negotiation skills.

DroneTech Academy Lesson 4: RACE

The final lesson in the four-part series of Dronetech Academy will be the most challenging and exciting. First Person View Racing aka FPV Drone Racing will bring students to the edge of their seats as they experience immersive flight and drone racing.

Students will gain knowledge regarding techniques used in drone racing and rigorous training in manoeuvres as well as discussing specific racing tactics that help in becoming a winning FPV Drone Racer.

A special training obstacle and racing circuit are designed to help students master the quadcopter drone in addition to tuning sessions for the controller. Controlling toys are great for teaching lessons in applied logic, programming, problem-solving and bringing STEM learning to life. Drones allow students to visualize their efforts towards building and programming and ultimately controlling drones to perform and address real-world challenges; they’re also super fun and engaging for all involved! This drone ‘Fly’ lesson is ideal for students wishing to take full control of flying a drone in various scenarios.
